My name is Jessica Stoker and I am so excited to be back as your HMS Library Media Specialist for the 2022-2023 school year! I am a native Houstonian, who grew up in Sheldon and graduated from C.E. King High School in 1998. I attended Sam Houston State University where I received my bachelor's degree in education in 2002. I began my teaching career in Galena Park ISD as a 5th grade GT/ESL math/science teacher and then was promoted to instructional specialist.
After the birth of my second child, I spent several years as a stay-at-home mom and became heavily involved in the PTA at our local elementary, where I found myself spending more and more time in the school library. I always LOVED the library and reading as a child, and volunteering in the library brought back a lot of those joyful memories. I had discovered my new calling! So in 2015, I decided to enroll in SHSU's online Masters of Library Science program and was blessed to be offered an elementary library media specialist position in Dayton ISD the following year at a brand new campus. I graduated with my MLS in May of 2017 and I can honestly say that is the best career choice I ever made.
I've been married to my incredible husband Robert since 2004, and we have two amazing kiddos. My oldest child, Summer, is a Junior this year at Hargrave High School and my youngest, Tristan, is a Freshman at HHS. Having the chance to do what I love, right here with the students in our community, is really the greatest opportunity ever! I'm also a huge animal lover, so we have quite a few pets in our home including 2 dogs, a cat, a bearded dragon, 4 3-toed box turtles and 2 large Sulcata tortoises with several of their babies. My hobbies include spending time with my family, taking care of all my critters, and of course...READING!
