SPEECH/Eighth Grade:

Greetings from Huffman Middle School! Welcome to a year of great activities used in learning to speak in front of your peers! We will have one radio commercial and five speeches to present during the semester. It moves quite quickly due to the fact that it is only a one semester course.  Two of the speeches can be done with a classmate which sometimes eases the anxiety level that accompanies giving a speech. We do many fun and challenging activities to make so each student feels more comfortable speaking in front of their peers. I welcome parents and family members to come during speech presentations with prior notification please. I have attached a course syllabus and Parent Homework activity for you to view and complete. There is a link for the syllabus and the Parent Homework. You may send the Parent Homework via email or a written/typed letter. I promise to not share any of the information about your student with anyone. Thank you.

Journalism Seventh/Eighth Grades:

Greetings from Huffman Middle School! Welcome to a year of learning about the changing world through Journalism! This class is very intense and also entertaining from an objective viewpoint. It is obvious from the last couple of years that the press/news media has been under fire. I want the students to learn the importance of an unbiased and fair way to inform the public about the who, what, where, when, why and how concerning the every day world. Last fall we started a hard copy and later a digital copy of the school newspaper, The Red & Black. It was a tremendous amount of exciting work with each edition we completed. I am very excited to repeat that this year, with more editions and on a regular basis. We also hope to enter some journalism students in writing and possibly photography contests. This class will move quickly, so be prepared to work hard!
